Moses Remayi, a married man, has narrated how he killed his side-chick in the Bulawayo area of Zimbabwe over her refusal to pick a phone call which he suspected was from another man, Sunday Mail reported.
The revelation came when Remayi recently appeared before Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa for trial and was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for violently assaulting the deceased, resulting in her death.
The convict had told the court that he suspected his late girlfriend was cheating on him after she refused to pick a call, which he suspected came from another man.
He said his insistence that she answered the call proved abortive, as she refused to do so, adding that upon dialing the number on his phone, he discovered the caller was a man, which infuriated him.
Remayi said the incident led to an argument between him and the deceased, claiming that she bit him in the process.
“I dialed the number using my phone, and a man answered. This made me angry, as I suspected she was cheating on me,” Remayi told the court.
The police told the court that Remayi used weapons, such as steel chairs, fists, and feet to brutally assault the deceased.
Witnesses also told the court that Remayi locked the door and beat the deceased for almost an hour, adding that he refused to open the door for neighbours to rescue her from his grip.
Evidence Denhere, who was a co-tenant of the deceased said when they heard her screams for help and attempted to intervene, Remayi refused to open the door adding that ‘no one could stop him as he had locked the door.’
The deceased was later found severely injured and half-naked and was rushed to the hospital but died days later.
Remayi’s claim that he was bitten by the deceased was rejected by Justice Evangelista Kabasa who found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to 18-years in jail accordingly
