Julius Abure the embattled Labour Party chairman, was on Tuesday reinstated in his position by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the court certified the 2024 Labour Party national convention in Nnewi, where Abure was reelected, stating that the exercise conformed with all laid down laws in Nigeria.
Delivering the ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise and accord all privileges to the Abure-led Labour Party’s National Working Committee, NWC.
Recall that the INEC had earlier said it did not recognise Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, arguing that the Abure-led LP leadership, which emerged from the March 2024 National Convention, was invalid.
The Electoral umpire added that the convention was in breach of both the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.
