Onyinyechi Mark has win Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Paralympics in Paris, France.
Mark also set a new world record in the women’s upto 61kg para-powerlifting to win Nigeria’s first gold medal after outlifting her opponents in the powerlifting finals at the event.
The 23-year-old prevailed in the women’s category after she lifted 150kg.
China’s Cui Jianjin won silver after lifting 140 kilogrammes while Mexico’s Amelia Perez won bronze, with 130kg.
Onyiyechi’s feat at La Chapelle Arena also broke the Paralympic record.
Esther Nworgu had on Wednesday won a silver medal in the women’s up to 41kg para-powerlifting event followed two days later by Eniola Bolaji, who also won a bronze medal in the women’s singles SL3 badminton event.
Lucy Ejike will on Friday compete in the women’s up to 67 kg category of para-powerlifting.
Ejike, a 46-year-old veteran, who has previously won three Paralympic gold medals for Nigeria, hopes to add another by the time the competition is over.
