Muslim group, Shiites attack police in Abuja, 2 cops dead, 3 unconscious

 Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, popularly known as Shi’ites, in Sunday allegedly launched a deadly attack on some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force at Wuse Junction by traffic light, Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has confirmed that two officers died in the attack while three others are currently unconscious.

Josephine Adeh, SP, the FCT Police spokesperson confirmed the incident.

According to her, the group attacked the police checkpoint “wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives”, resulting in the casualties among the police operatives.

However, she added that several arrests had been made in connection with the killings.

“While several arrests have been effected, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, condemns the unprovoked attack on Police officers,” Adeh said.

“He promises to bring those involved to book. The situation is presently under control and normalcy restored.

“Further development will be communicated in due course.”
