Unknown gunmen have struck again in Imo State, killing a young man in Orji, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
This came barely a day after a violent attack in Irete, Owerri West LGA, where four police officers and a point-of-sale operator were killed on Monday.
The gunmen also burnt a vehicle belonging to the Imo State Government Waste Management Agency vehicle at Nkwo Orji Market in Owerri North.
They reportedly issued threats at traders and market-goers, shouting: “Stay in your homes. Don’t come out during the sit-at-home if you value your lives.”
Terrified traders and buyers abandoned their wares and cars and fled.
Reacting, Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson, assured the public that police had deployed operatives to the area.
He said: “The situation is under control. The miscreants responsible for the attacks will certainly be brought to book.”
